Tour&Album PR: Tia Brazda, the return of vintage jazzpop
About this project
We’re excited to collaborate with Canadian singer Tia Brazda as she blends her sparkly presence and cheerful brand of vintage jazzpop into When I Get Low (Flatcar Records, May 27)! This brand new release sports nine cutting-edge retro gems that will please fans of Caro Emerald and The Puppini Sisters, while still catering to old-school jazz fans as she presents eight standards from the early days of the jazz tradition alongside one original composition.
As we got ready to promote the album, Tia returned to Europe in late April. After previously gracing stages such as Montreux Jazz Festival and Spirit de Milan, she headed to Germany and London. The result? Full houses in Hamburg (Birdland Club, April 29), Berlin (B-Flat, April 30) and London (Pizza Express Live, May 2), and airplay and coverage in both countries as well. Once the album came out, it garnered critical acclaim in Poland, Spain, and France, too, with highlights being national radio station France Musique and CouleursJazz’s Best Of selection.
When I Get Low is Brazda’s third full-length release, after her well-received 2015 debut Bandshell and its 2018 successor Daydream brought her all across Canada, the US and Europe. Her music has been described as “a hip pastiche”, “a walking catalog of 20th century jazz styles”, and “as good as it gets” in swing jazz, with No Depression magazine saying she is “truly an original”. Where previous original material flirted with (electro)swing, Brazda’s latest offering is sure to charm more traditional jazz fans as well, presenting Great American Songbook standards with a fresh, modern twist.
There is a 2023 tour already in the works, so stay tuned, and when it’s time.. come dance with us!
