About this project

Immigration is a hot-button issue, and not the only relatable topic that acclaimed singer and composer Fuat Tuaç presents on his aptly named sophomore album The Immigrant, out on May 26. Here, Fuat shares a collection of stories and experiences about life in Canada as a 30-something foreigner. Early on in Fuat’s release campaign, his release and life story were already embraced by CNN Türkye, a proud Jazz Girl achievement.

Backed by some of the finest musicians on the Canadian scene, Fuat is joined by hypercreative guitarist Eric St-Laurent, trumpeter Kevin Turcotte, Juno-nominee Eric West on drums, and Jordan O’Connor on double bass as he tells his melodic stories in English, French, and his native Turkish. He invites celebrated vocalist Kim Richardson for a duet on Chez Moi, and renowned Istanbul singer Yesim Akin joins him on the traditional song Uzun Ince Bir Yoldayim, echoing hymns from Asia Minor across the ocean.

On April 7, the first Bandcamp Friday since our PR efforts began, all proceeds are donated to Ahbap.org, a local organization for earthquake relief in Turkey and Syria.
